THE BUYING ANSWER

Start with a clear definition.

Label the two sets separately. Body measurements describe the intended wearer; garment measurements describe the finished item in a defined condition. The relationship between them must be reviewed for the particular design rather than copied as a universal allowance.

The decision behind the detail.

A relaxed flat measurement and a worn circumference are not interchangeable. Agree the measurement method before comparing a sample with the chart.

PREPARE ONLY WHAT IS RELEVANT

Three details to bring.

Chart type
Identify each column as body or finished-garment data.
Measurement condition
State flat, relaxed, fastened or other agreed conditions.
Sample comparison
Record which sample and size will validate the relationship.

Check together

  • Check that all measurements use the same units.
  • Keep body and garment values in separately labelled columns.
  • Do not infer a universal fit from one photographed pet.
