THE BUYING ANSWER

Start with a clear definition.

Identify the repeat, direction and desired treatment of seams and small panels. State whether motif placement may vary or must follow a controlled layout. An all-over pattern still needs a clear decision about what the finished product should look like.

The decision behind the detail.

Fixed placement and variable placement create different approval questions. Use sample views to define acceptable variation rather than expecting every cut to look identical by default.

PREPARE ONLY WHAT IS RELEVANT

Three details to bring.

Repeat file
Record the active pattern and scale.
Direction
Mark the intended orientation on the product.
Variation rule
Describe fixed motifs or accepted placement variation.

Check together

  • Review the smallest relevant panel.
  • Check adjoining panels for unintended direction changes.
  • Keep the approved variation rule with inspection notes.
