THE BUYING ANSWER

Start with a clear definition.

Request the packing configuration, carton count, outer dimensions and gross weight, together with the shipment destination and proposed method. An early estimate based on unconfirmed packing should remain identified as an estimate.

The decision behind the detail.

A product dimension is not a shipping carton dimension. Bulky presentation or disassembled components can change the packed shipment independently of the item's displayed size.

PREPARE ONLY WHAT IS RELEVANT

Three details to bring.

Packing data
Record carton count, outer dimensions and gross weight.
Destination
Specify the receiving location and known delivery constraints.
Estimate status
Identify measured figures versus provisional assumptions.

Check together

  • Check units of measure for every dimension and weight.
  • Ask for updated data after packing is approved.
  • Keep freight estimates separate from confirmed shipment charges.
