THE BUYING ANSWER

Start with a clear definition.

Compare the sample with the brief's main shape and construction objectives, then record what remains provisional. Identify substitute materials or unfinished details. An early prototype can be useful without being the final colour, trim or production reference.

The decision behind the detail.

Treating every provisional detail as final can create avoidable rework. Ask which parts were made to answer the current development question.

PREPARE ONLY WHAT IS RELEVANT

Three details to bring.

Prototype identity
Record style, size and revision.
Main objectives
List the design decisions under review.
Provisional details
Identify materials or features not ready for final approval.

Check together

  • Compare the sample to the current brief.
  • Label temporary substitutions clearly.
  • Prioritise the changes needed for the next version.
